Kittitas County PUD #1 is a municipal corporation organized and existing under the laws of the State of Washington. The District is classified as a political subdivision of the State. It was established by a vote of the electorate in 1936 and exists under and by virtue of Chapter 1 of the Laws of Washington, for the purpose of engaging in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of Electric Energy. The District's service area is approximately 2,315 square miles covering most of Kittitas County and a small portion of Yakima County.

The PUD's system includes approximately 13 miles of transmission lines, 7 substations, 490 miles of overhead distribution lines, and 190 miles of underground lines. Nearly 10,000 poles carry electricity to the customers of the District.

The District is a statutory preference customer of Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) and currently purchases approximately 80% of its power from Bonneville. The rest of the District's power is primarily supplied by the Priest Rapids Hydroelectric Project (nearly 15%) and other sources.
