District Location
Public Utility District #1 is in Kittitas County, in the geographic center of the state, about an hour and a half (100 miles) east of Seattle, 45 minutes (40 miles) northwest of Yakima, and 3 hours (175 miles) west of Spokane. The topography of the area includes snow-capped mountains, irrigated valley land, desert terrain, and 2 major rivers, the Yakima and the Columbia.
Kittitas County encompasses the City of Ellensburg (the Kittitas County Seat), the City of Kittitas, the City of Cle Elum, the City of Roslyn, the Town of South Cle Elum, and many unincorporated areas. The District primarily serves the unincorporated portions of Kittitas County.
Tourism & Recreation
Tourism is an important sector of the local economy. The Ellensburg Rodeo and Kittitas County Fair attract over 30,000 visitors to the area each Labor Day weekend.

Hiking Trails & Parks
The Gingko Petrified Forest and Wanapum State Parks are both located in the county. In addition, a large portion of the 213 mile-long John Wayne Trail runs through the county.
