The PUD uses mostly digital meters on new installs and meter replacements.
When reading a digital meter, some meters will flash a test pattern prior to the flashing of
the kilowatt hour reading. The test pattern shows 8888. After the 8888 display is gone,
the numbers that display next are the kilowatt hour reading. These are the numbers that
you send to the PUD.
Some meters do not flash the test pattern and just show the kilowatt hour reading.
